SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office recently hosted a Men’s Health and PTSD Awareness event aimed at promoting both physical and mental well-being.
The event focused on physical wellness, mental health, stress management, and raising awareness about the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder. Participants learned how to recognize the signs of stress and trauma while gaining practical tools to improve their overall health.

Vernita Williams, an intake specialist with the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, said many people are afraid or embarrassed to talk about mental health struggles.
“People are afraid and/or embarrassed, don’t want people to know what they are going through with mental health issues or PTSD. I would say there is nothing wrong; that’s what we are here for, to help and help you seek assistance,” Williams said.
Corporal Tim Young said the event was designed to encourage men to have open conversations about their mental health.

“We are quiet by nature. Men don’t like to talk about things; we like to keep our emotions on the inside, so we are having this event just to get men to open up to talk about it,” Young said.
Organizers said a major goal of the event was to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health challenges and encourage men to seek help and support when needed.
