What if better health is less about chasing quick fixes and more about what you do every day? According to Delhi nutritionist Lovneet Batra, the most powerful form of medicine does not come in a bottle. She believes true health is built through simple, practical choices repeated consistently. While medical care is primarily designed to treat disease, our daily routines play an equally crucial role in sustaining good health. Small habits can influence energy, metabolism, immunity and long-term well-being. Batra has shared 5 everyday practices on Instagram that can help support the body from within.

Nourish your body with whole foods

A nutritious diet starts with food that delivers a wide range of essential nutrients rather than relying heavily on ultra-processed options. Whole foods such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, pulses, nuts, seeds and quality protein sources can provide fibre, vitamins, minerals and other compounds that support overall health. The WHO recommends a varied diet built around nutrient-dense foods while limiting excess sugars, salt and unhealthy fats.

    Prioritise deep, restorative sleep

Sleep is not simply downtime; it is an important part of the body’s recovery process. Adequate, good-quality sleep supports immune function, hormone regulation, mental performance and metabolic health. The CDC notes that insufficient sleep can make it harder for the immune system to fight infections and can affect blood sugar regulation. Building a consistent sleep schedule and creating a restful bedtime environment can therefore be an important part of a healthy routine.

    Walk daily to support metabolism

Walking is one of the simplest ways to keep the body active throughout the day. Regular movement can help muscles use glucose, support metabolic health and contribute to better blood sugar management. Even a short walk after meals can be a practical way to add movement to a sedentary routine. The CDC recommends starting with achievable goals such as a 10-minute walk after dinner, while WHO advises adults to accumulate regular moderate physical activity each week.

Build muscle for strength and longevity

Strength is an important part of healthy ageing, making muscle-building more than just a fitness goal. Resistance exercises can help maintain muscle mass, physical function and independence as people age. WHO recommends that adults include muscle-strengthening activities involving major muscle groups on at least two days a week. Combining strength training with regular movement can create a more complete approach to long-term fitness.

Exercise to support your mind too

A workout can benefit more than physical fitness. Regular physical activity is associated with better mood, improved sleep and reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression. The CDC notes that even a single session of moderate-to-vigorous activity can offer immediate benefits, while regular exercise supports long-term health. The goal does not necessarily have to be an intense gym session; dancing, cycling, walking, yoga or another activity you enjoy can also help you stay active.
