RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – The Behavioral Health Association of Nevada (BHAN) is hosting an educational workshop for the general public on Resilience for Families: Navigating Substance Use and Mental Health Conditions.

Dr. Novia Anderson and Natalie Carano will both be presenters at the event. They stopped by Morning Break to encourage community members to attend the free event.

This workshop was made possible by BHAN’s receipt of City of Reno Opioid Funds, the free event will be held Thursday, Feb. 12 from 6-7:30p.m.at the Washoe County Commission Chambers.

    About:

The number of families impacted by addiction and mental health in the United States has escalated to a national crisis. Families are often torn apart when a loved one is experiencing alcohol and drug abuse and/or mental health conditions. They are left feeling isolated and not knowing where to turn for help. A panel of experts will provide education about substance use and mental health conditions, how individuals can support their loved ones, and various community resources that are available.

Suicides and Fentanyl overdoses continue to occur at an alarming rate in Washoe County. Most individuals do not understand the impact of mental illness or substance use, and there is a significant lack of awareness about the deadly effects of Fentanyl in particular. BHAN recognizes the family component of the addiction and mental health crisis is critical to the overall prevention efforts in the community.
