What did I do? Aim/s of your PhD

The aim of this project was to explore and gain a deeper understanding of sports injury prevention in competitive alpine skiing (henceforth called alpine skiing) to help develop and implement effective, context-driven prevention measures.

Why did I do it? Rationale for your PhD

Despite efforts to improve safety, injury rates in alpine skiing remain high,1 significantly impacting athlete health and performance. Research has largely focused on describing injury epidemiology and aetiology, with limited evidence on the development, implementation and real-world effectiveness of preventive measures.1 Moreover, previous research has often focused on single factors while overlooking the complex, multifactorial nature of injuries in this high-risk environment.1 2 A clear gap existed between scientific research and what athletes, coaches and other key stakeholders actually need and face in practice. This PhD, therefore, aimed to bridge the research, context and practice gaps by placing context and stakeholder perspectives at the core of injury prevention (figure 1).3
