The Lorain County Suicide Prevention Coalition invites families and community members to a free fishing event focused on mental wellness, community connection and suicide prevention awareness.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon June 27 at Finger Pier, next to Hot Waters, 1104 W. First St. in Lorain.
The event is open to all ages and skill levels, with fishing equipment, instruction and activities provided at no cost.
Organizers hope the event will provide an opportunity for families and friends to connect while learning about local mental health
resources, according to the release.
“By bringing people together in a peaceful setting, we hope to encourage connection, reduce stigma around mental health and remind everyone that they are not alone,” said Rebecca Jones of the Mental Health, Addiction and Recovery Services Board of Lorain County, in the release.
In addition to fishing, attendees will have access to mental health information, community resources and family-friendly activities in a welcoming and supportive environment, the release said.
For more information, contact Jones at RJones@MHARSLC.org.
The sponsors of the event are Life Side Ohio, Lorain County Suicide Prevention Coalition, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation and the Mental Health, Addiction and Recovery Services Board of Lorain County.
