Social Security payments won’t arrive on one single date in July 2026, and that small detail could make a big difference for millions of households trying to plan their month.
The Social Security Administration’s 2026 payment calendar confirms a staggered July schedule for retirees, SSDI recipients and SSI beneficiaries.

Most recipients will be paid based on their birthday, while others will receive money earlier because of when they first started collecting benefits or because they receive more than one type of payment.
The biggest wrinkle comes for Supplemental Security Income recipients. SSI beneficiaries will receive their normal July payment at the start of the month, then see another deposit before August begins.
That second payment isn’t an extra benefit or a bonus check. It’s the August SSI payment arriving early because August 1, 2026, falls on a Saturday.
When Social Security and SSDI arrive in July
Most Social Security and SSDI recipients are paid on Wednesdays, with the exact date determined by birth date.
Those born between the 1st and 10th of the month will receive their July payment on Wednesday, July 8. Recipients born between the 11th and 20th will be paid on Wednesday, July 15. Those born between the 21st and 31st will receive their deposit on Wednesday, July 22.
A separate group will be paid earlier. People who started receiving Social Security before May 1997, or those who receive both Social Security and SSI, are normally paid Social Security benefits on the third day of the month.
In July 2026, that payment moves to Thursday, July 2, because July 3 is the federal observance of Independence Day. SSI recipients will receive their regular July payment on Wednesday, July 1.
Why SSI recipients get money twice
SSI follows a different payment rule from standard Social Security retirement and SSDI benefits. It is usually paid on the first day of each month, unless that date falls on a weekend or holiday.
Since August 1 falls on a Saturday in 2026, the SSA will send the August SSI payment on Friday, July 31. That means SSI beneficiaries should see two July deposits: one on July 1 for July benefits and one on July 31 for August benefits.
The early payment can help with budgeting, but it also means recipients shouldn’t expect another SSI payment on August 1.
The SSA calendar also advises beneficiaries to wait three additional mailing days before contacting Social Security if a payment does not arrive on the expected date.
The key July dates are July 1 for SSI, July 2 for certain long-term or dual recipients, July 8, 15 and 22 for staggered Social Security and SSDI payments, and July 31 for the early August SSI deposit.
