SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — March marks Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, and Families Helping Families Region 7 is working to shine a light on inclusion and support through its latest “See the Ability” awareness campaign.

The campaign aims to highlight the strengths and everyday contributions of individuals living with developmental disabilities across Northwest Louisiana.
As part of the campaign, billboards featuring local community members will be displayed throughout Shreveport and Bossier City from March 23 through March 29. The goal is to encourage residents to recognize ability over disability.
Executive Director Chanel Jackson says the organization serves as an information and resource center for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families across nine parishes.
“We want to make sure families have the tools they need to advocate for their loved ones and ensure they’re able to live a quality life,” Jackson said.
The campaign also brings awareness to a range of developmental conditions, including autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and Fragile X syndrome.
Organizers say the message is simple but powerful: individuals with developmental disabilities are not defined by limitations, but by their unique strengths and potential.
In addition to the campaign, the organization continues to provide workshops and resources designed to educate families and empower individuals to succeed in school, the workplace, and everyday life.
