One of 51 dogs rescued by ARC’s operation in Arkansas – credit ARC, supplied From Arkansas comes the story of a huge animal rescue operation of 51 dogs trapped in a derelict shelter. Headquartered in neighboring Nashville, the Animal Rescue Corps (ARC) received information about a nonprofit dog rescue in Ashdown, Arkansas, where an acrimonious divorce between the shelter’s owners left the dogs caught in the crossfire. Much like children, the animals had unwittingly become victims of a marital conflict they had no involvement in. Many had already been stuck in the shelter waiting for adoption for years by the…
If you grew up being your own source of comfort, guidance, and emotional support, you probably don’t need anyone to tell you how exhausting that was. You already know. What you might not know is that healing from self-parentification is actually possible. The patterns you developed as a kid—the hyper-independence, the difficulty asking for help, the instinct to take care of everyone but yourself—aren’t permanent. They’re adaptations you learned by doing the best you could with what you were given. And adaptations can be unlearned. It takes time. It takes intention. And it often takes a combination of professional support…
The Cincinnati Health Department recently highlighted the pervasive issue of stress leading to burnout and its impact on overall well-being. When the grind doesn’t ease up, and there’s no room for recovery, it can whack your energy, mess with your sleep, twist your mood, and knock around your physical health. The department says one of the keys to fending off this exhaustive state is building resilience. Resilience isn’t just about bouncing back from a bad day at the office. It’s essential for navigating the constant pummeling of setbacks we all face. In a social media post from the Cincinnati Health Department,…
Burnout has had quite the rise. In a handful of years it went from an obscure occupational phenomenon to a household name. Chances are you know someone, or are someone, who has been laid low by a relentless workload or toxic relationship with productivity. “The always-on nature of modern work, where emails ping at 10pm and Slack messages arrive on weekends, has obliterated the boundaries that protect downtime,” says Dr Claire Ashley, a GP and author of The Burnout Doctor: Your 6-step Recovery Plan. It’s little surprise that the 2026 Burnout Report by Mental Health UK shows that 91% of…
In today’s workplace, the connection between digital identity and employee wellness is becoming more and more evident. As organizations move toward more personalized, distributed work, managing access to wellness resources in a secure and efficient way is crucial. Identity management systems are no longer limited to controlling logins—they now help provide tailored experiences, ensure privacy, and streamline HR operations. According to Elliott Allan Hilsinger, these systems also play a pivotal role in scaling programs and maintaining compliance with data regulations. By integrating identity with wellness strategies, companies can foster a more engaged workforce,…
Some Social Security recipients won’t receive their normal payment in March.Supplemental Security Income beneficiaries – generally people with limited income who are 65 and older or people who are blind or have a disability – won’t receive a payment in March. March 1 is a Sunday, so SSI payments will be made on Friday, Feb. 27. The regular SSI schedule will resume in April with payments coming…
A village in north Somerset has got passionate about rare species spotting thanks to the biodiversity-boosting efforts of Yeo Valley Organic’s home farm Sleeves scrunched to their elbows and rubber gloves pulled on – it was July 2023 and Yeo Valley Organic’s senior management team was getting a close up view of one of dairy farming’s less glamorous byproducts. Instead of board meetings and production schedules, the focus was on an entirely different task: sifting through moist discs of cowpat in search of glossy black dung beetles. It might sound like a nose-wrinkling staff away day, but the great beetle…
Brandy Vailes via Unsplash Decades of underinvestment in mining and refining across Europe and North America has landed the manufacturing sector in a problem, which a group of scientists believe can be helped by mushrooms rather than excavators. One must have been living under a rock not to have recently read the terms “critical minerals” or “rare earth elements.” These components—nickel, to use an example of the former, and gallium from the latter—are needed in increasing amounts to build next generation technologies of all kinds, from longer-lasting batteries in electric vehicles to AI data centers and spacecraft. Traditionally, these materials…
