Two already-adopted cats at Bide Awhile – credit, Bide Awhile Animal Shelter, via Facebook It’s always a bit of a struggle to walk through an animal shelter, past all those pairs of eyes watching you from behind bars, knowing you can’t take more than a couple home with you. At Bide Awhile Animal Shelter in Nova Scotia, there’s no such struggle—the cages are all empty. “It’s crazy to say but today we actually have no one available for adoption,” Sam Cole, communications and marketing coordinator for the shelter, told CTV News. “Everyone is either adopted and waiting for their veterinary…

In 2026, the maximum Social Security benefit is $5,181 per month. While most people don’t receive this much money, those who maxed out their average wages and claimed benefits at the age of 70 can receive upwards of $63,000 yearly payment from the Social Security Administration to fund their retirement. The maximum benefit increases during most years, so for those planning ahead for the future, it may be interesting to estimate what the max benefit amount will be in 2035. Social Security benefits increase over time due to inflation and rising wages. During most years, current retirees are given a…
Taking part in a six-week yoga program improved self-reported physical activity and sleep quality, and reduced fatigue among people with multiple sclerosis (MS), according to a new study from Turkey. In a randomized clinical trial (NCT06128668), researchers assessed the benefits of yoga sessions, compared to no intervention, in 60 people with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS), the most common form of MS. According to the team, “yoga may help manage symptoms and improve health” among MS patients. Based on their findings, the team concluded that “yoga may be considered a beneficial complementary approach in the care and symptom management of patients…
It’s not a change that will impact everyone, but it could affect you. It’s common for Social Security to go through changes year after year. For example, Social Security benefits are eligible for an automatic cost-of-living adjustment, or COLA, each year that’s pegged to inflation. This year, benefits got a 2.8% boost because of that provision. But while Social Security’s 2.8% COLA may have been pretty well publicized, other 2026 Social Security changes may have flown under your radar. And there’s one change in particular you may have missed that could impact your ability to collect benefits in the future. Image…

But soon after, they were hit with freezing temperatures and snow as a winter storm rolled through the Southeast U.S.Still, their mission to spread a message of peace, unity, and healing went undeterred. The journey, or “Peace Walk,” as the monks call it, will end with a gathering at the United States Capitol, where they’ll…
Open this photo in gallery:Viktor Cvetkovic/Getty Images“Whoa.” That was all I could say one January morning when my five-year-old daughter emerged from her bedroom with a full face of makeup – emphasis on full. She had been experimenting with the “real” makeup Santa brought her, seated at the miniature vanity she had pleaded for, one that looks just like mine.Blue eyeshadow stretched higher than her eyebrows. Lipstick applied with cartoon-villain enthusiasm.“So beautiful,” I started to say – then caught myself. She is already beautiful, of course. Joker-esque makeup – or no makeup at all – wouldn’t change that.I’ve never steered…
Some kids grow up with parents who guide, comfort, and help them make sense of the world. And some kids? They figure it out on their own. If you were the child who learned early on that no one was coming to help—that you had to manage your own emotions, solve your own problems, and essentially raise yourself—you might be familiar with something psychologists call self-parentification, also called, to some degree, parentification. And it’s not always obvious. From the outside, you probably looked fine. More than fine, actually. Maybe you were the “mature” kid, the one adults praised for being…
Modern life can be fast-paced and mentally draining, so protecting your time and energy is important. Taking care of yourself isn’t indulgent, nor does it mean switching off from responsibility; it’s about creating space for mental clarity and physical recovery. Whether through small daily rituals or short, refreshing breaks, intentional self-care helps you reset and return to everyday routines feeling calmer and better equipped to cope. Build Mindful Moments Into Your Day Self-care doesn’t have to take hours out of your schedule; even a few minutes of intentional pause can improve focus and reduce stress. Simple practices such as…
What Do You Think? Employees can sustain compensable injuries when they walk from the building where they work to a designated employee parking lot. But what if an employee gets injured when he leaves an employee-provided walkway for a makeshift path so he can get to his car sooner? A case involving a Ford plant worker sheds light on that issue The auto worker in that case left the jobsite and, instead of taking the employer provided sidewalk all the way to the lot,…
