The story was originally written by a successful French playwright and Puccini felt it was born to be sung. In May of 1887, he wrote to his publisher begging to get the rights to make it into an opera,…

(Photo: Tetra Images / Getty Images) The average Social Security check now exceeds $2,000 for the first time, but the cost of living adjustment of 2.8% is insufficient, the nonpartisan Senior Citizens League reported Tuesday. “Seeing the average Social Security retirement benefit cross $2,000 is a big milestone, but one that we’re witnessing far too late,” TSCL Executive Director Shannon Benton said. “The reality is that seniors consistently tell us that they see their benefits falling further behind inflation every year, as their quality of life degrades.” The COLA means that the average check now is $2,015.07, an increase of…

The study was conducted by Talker Research on behalf of ThriftBooks and revealed that Gen Z (54%) and millennials (43%) are also more likely than Gen X (33%) and baby boomers (22%) to have a…
When a grizzly bear attacked a group of fourth- and fifth-graders in western Canada in late November 2025, it sparked more than a rescue effort for the 11 people injured — four with severe injuries. Local authorities began trying to find the specific bear that was involved in order to relocate or euthanize it, depending on the results of their assessment. The attack, in Bella Coola, British Columbia, was very unusual bear behavior and sparked an effort to figure out exactly what had happened and why. That meant finding the bear involved — which, based on witness statements, was a mother…
