Ever notice how one comment, one look, or one tiny inconvenience can flip your mood in seconds? You’re fine… then suddenly you’re irritated, defensive, shut down, or snapping at someone who doesn’t deserve it. And afterward, you’re left thinking, Why did that hit me so hard? That’s the power of emotional triggers. Most of us like to believe we’re in control of our reactions. But the truth is, a lot of our emotional responses happen on autopilot. They’re fast. Instinctive. Almost invisible until the damage is already done. And then comes the regret, the overthinking, or the awkward apology. But…

Vicky Outen Photograph / SWNS A photographer has captured adorable photographs of fluffy seal pups. Every year, hundreds of visitors flock to see the grey seal pups that are born at Donna Nook Nature Reserve, on the Lincolnshire coast each year. Last year alone, 1,924 seal pups were born, which is up 274 from 2024. Photos show the seals rolling around in the grass, with one seal giving a shocked expression to the camera. “For the past few years, I have made regular trips to see the baby seal pups,” said photographer Vicky Outen. “They are incredibly endearing, each with…
by SWANTuesday, January 13, 2026Inter Press Service Nomadic Jamaican-American writer Claude McKay probably never dreamed that 21st-century readers would be delving into his private correspondence some 77 years after his death. But that’s probably part of the professional hazard (luck?) of being a literary luminary, or, as Yale University Press describes him, “one of the Harlem Renaissance’s brightest and most radical voices”. The Press recently released Letters in Exile: Transnational Journeys of a Harlem Renaissance Writer, edited by Brooks E. Hefner and Gary Edward Holcomb. This is a comprehensive collection of “never-before-published dispatches from the road” with correspondents who have equally…
Compliance Corner Whether or not a workers’ compensation claim is paid or denied is the nuts and bolts of compliance, but what are the rules? Here’s what Indiana law provides, as detailed on Simply Research. Deadlines A payor shall pay or deny each clean claim as follows: (1) If the claim is filed electronically, not more than 30 days after the date the claim is received by the payor. (2) If the claim is filed on paper, not more than 45 days after the…
As we look ahead in 2026, one thing is clear: Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) compliance is no longer a “back office” issue; it is a “front-line” risk management priority. Regulatory pressure continues to mount, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has sharpened its enforcement tools, and private entities, such as MSP Recovery LLC, are becoming increasingly aggressive in recovery efforts. Based on what we are seeing across workers’ compensation, liability, and no-fault claims, here are my top five MSP predictions for 2026. 1. CMS Will Impose Penalties on Noncompliant Insurance Payers for Section 111 Reporting …
Tumors in the human body contain immune cells called macrophages that are naturally capable of attacking cancer. However, the tumor environment suppresses these cells, preventing them from doing their job. Researchers at KAIST have now found a way to overcome this barrier by directly transforming immune cells already inside tumors into active cancer-fighting therapies. KAIST (President Kwang Hyung Lee) announced on the 30th that a research team led by Professor Ji-Ho Park from the Department of Bio and Brain Engineering has developed a new treatment approach. When a drug is injected directly into a tumor, macrophages already present in the…
Safety at Work Frankfort, KY (WorkersCompensation.com) – As schools struggle with how to protect teachers from students some legislators are considering legislation that will codify it. In Kentucky, lawmakers have introduced legislation to “strengthen protections for Kentucky’s teachers” from student violence. Ky. State Sen. Matt Nunn (R-Sadieville) said his legislation would require schools to report all attempted assaults on staff, and result in students who physically injure school staff to be expelled from school for one year. The legislation also gives local prosecutors the…
Labor Landscape The family-owned company that operates The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette cited mounting losses and labor constraints for its closure. A final edition is expected on Sunday, May 3. The shuttering of the Post-Gazette comes after a three-year strike by newspaper employees who were asking management for better wages and working conditions. The strike ended in November 2025 after an appellate court ruled in favor of union workers. The Post-Gazette was found to have violated federal labor law by cutting health care benefits and failing to bargain fairly. Reporters argue that the paper owners never…
