Coway’s visually impaired choir, the Mulbit Choir, held a disability awareness campaign combining live performance and education for about 500 teenagers.

The company said Tuesday it hosted the “Disability Awareness Campaign for Future Generations” on Wednesday at Eunpyeong Middle School in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, with roughly 500 students in attendance.

The campaign was designed to help young people understand the daily lives and experiences of people with disabilities through the arts and to reduce prejudice against disability.

The Mulbit Choir performed six songs, including popular Korean tracks familiar to students — among them “Where the Wind Blows” by Kim Kwang-seok and “Uphill Road” by Yoon Jong-shin — as well as pop songs.

Coway has continued the Mulbit Choir’s disability awareness activities primarily at schools and universities. The program pairs live performances with direct participation by people with disabilities, allowing young audiences to gain a more concrete understanding of life with a disability.

The Mulbit Choir was founded in December 2022 with the goals of vocational rehabilitation for people with disabilities and the creation of stable employment. It launched with 10 severely visually impaired artists and has since expanded its roster and performance activities.

“We hope this performance gives young people an opportunity to break down their preconceptions about disability and develop a respect for difference,” a Coway official said. “We will continue contributing to disability awareness in our communities and creating social value through a wide range of cultural and artistic activities.”
