EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — WE HIKE Adventure announced it will be returning for its second annual outdoor series, “WE HIKE for Veterans: Awareness, Connection & Prevention”, in honor of September’s Suicide Awareness Month.

WE HIKE officials said the organization is introducing a post-walk yoga session called “Unlace and Unwind.”

The program will focus on stress reduction, relaxation, and physical recovery after a trail walk, led by a local military veteran, officials said.

The event is designed to bring the community together with a free two-part series honoring military veterans, raise awareness of veteran suicide prevention, and create new opportunities for connection.

WE HIKE will host two sessions at Chuck Heinrich Memorial Park, located at 11055 Loma Del Norte Drive.

The first event will begin at 6:45 a.m. Thursday morning, Sept. 10, with a 1-to 4-mile desert trail walk, followed by yoga at 8:15 a.m.

The second event will begin at 6:45 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21, with a one-mile sunset walk followed by yoga at 8 p.m.

The beginner-friendly hike is free to the community.

“Getting outdoors and walking together is about far more than exercise,” said Lisa Enriquez, Founder and President of WE HIKE Adventure. “It’s about showing up for one another and making sure no veteran feels like they have to walk alone. Whether you join us for the morning trail or the evening sunset walk, this series is about community, connection, and hope.”

Information on local mental health resources and support contacts will be available for participants at both sessions.

If you or someone you know is in crisis, help is available 24/7. Call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or dial 988 and Press 1 for the Veterans Crisis Line.
