Some benefits recipients in the United States are to get their latest monthly money next week, as the Social Security Administration (SSA) continues August 2026’s payment schedule for the Social Security scheme.
Who receives Social Security on Wednesday, August 12?
Of the just over 71 million Social Security recipients in the U.S., most get their benefits on the second, third or fourth Wednesday in the month, depending on their birthday. As August 12 is this month’s second Wednesday, payments are to be made to recipients born between the first and tenth day of any month.
The complete three-Wednesdays schedule for August 2026 is:
- Born 1st-10th of month: Wednesday, August 12
- Born 11th-20th of month: Wednesday, August 19
- Born 21st-31st of month: Wednesday, August 26
NB: If you get Social Security benefits based on someone else’s work history, the SSA uses the other person’s birthday.
What other Social Security payment dates are there in August 2026?
- August 3: Social Security paid to certain long-term recipients
Social Security recipients since before May 1997 were paid on Monday 3 August, regardless of their birthday.
- August: Social Security paid to recipients who also get SSI
August 3 was also this month’s Social Security payment date for recipients who combine the program with Supplemental Security Income (SSI), a benefit for certain low-income, low-resource Americans. August’s SSI, meanwhile, was paid out on Friday, July 31.
SSI is normally issued on the first day of each month, but was sent out a day early because August 1 was a Saturday.
How much are monthly Social Security benefits?
- Retirement benefits: $2,029.92
- Disability benefits: $1,496.16
- Survivor benefits: $1,631.39
(Average benefit, according to stats shared by the SSA.)
How does the Social Security Admin make payments?
