As the final wave of Social Security payments for July are distributed, Michigan recipients are in for a slightly unique payment schedule for August.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will be sent out a day early on Friday, July 31 because Aug. 1 lands on a Saturday. SSI payments are typically sent on the first of the month, but the date gets adjusted if the first falls on a weekend or holiday.

SSI is a program administered by the Social Security Administration to provide benefits for those with limited or no income or resources, those aged 65 or older and those with a qualifying disability.

Social Security payments will land on Wednesdays per usual with Aug. 12, 19 and 26 as the payment dates. The schedule is based on the birth dates of the recipients, according to the SSA.

On Tuesday, July 14, the nonpartisan senior advocacy group, The Senior Citizens League, released an updated prediction for the 2027 Social Security Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA). The group projected a 3.8% increase, which would be 1.1 percentage points higher than the increase for 2026.

The official 2027 COLA will be announced in October — though, in the meantime, The Senior Citizens League forecasts are released typically early each month.

Here’s more on when to expect your Social Security, SSI checks in August 2026.

When are Supplemental Security Income, Social Security payments being sent out in August?

Here’s the full payment schedule for Social Security, SSI receipients:

    • Friday, July 31, is the payment date for SSI payments.

    • Wednesday, Aug. 12: for Social Security beneficiaries with birth dates between Aug. 1-10.

    • Wednesday, Aug. 19: for Social Security beneficiaries with birth dates between Aug. 11-20.

    • Wednesday, Aug. 26: for Social Security beneficiaries with birth dates between Aug. 21-31.

What should I do if I don’t get my Social Security payment?

According to the SSA, if you don’t receive your payment on the scheduled date, wait three additional days, then call the Social Security office.

Where are Social Security offices in Michigan?

There are 48 offices in Michigan and, to find an office near you, recipients may use the office locator via the Social Security’s website by entering your ZIP code for office hours, numbers, available services and more.

What does the updated 2027 Social Security COLA forecast say?

The 2027 COLA forecast stands at 3.8% as inflation rises, according to The Senior Citizens League’s July 14 update. If that goes into effect, the average Social Security check for retired workers would increase by $73.62.

In June, The Senior Citizens League had the COLA forecast also at 3.8%.

The Senior Citizens League releases a COLA prediction each month based on the Consumer Price Index, Federal Reserve interest rate and the National Unemployment rate from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
