NAMIWalks Valley of the Sun Returns to Phoenix Oct. 10

Thousands of Arizonans are expected to gather this Saturday for the 22nd annual NAMIWalks Valley of the Sun, a fundraiser and community event that raises awareness about mental illness and supports people affected by it.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness hosts the annual walk, and this year’s edition is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, 2026, according to NAMIWalks. As ABC15 Arizona reported, the event connects individuals and families with resources and support networks while encouraging open conversations about mental health.

ABC15’s Christel Bell spoke with Kristina Sabetta, Executive Director of NAMI Valley of the Sun, who shared why the walk holds personal significance for her. Sabetta has her own experience with mental illness, which the station reported helped shape a passion for advocacy and for supporting people facing similar struggles. She described the walk as an opportunity for people to come together, share their stories, and build a stronger community for those affected by mental illness.

Why the Funds Matter in Arizona

Money raised through NAMIWalks supports NAMI’s education programs, advocacy efforts, and free support services, which the station’s report says benefit individuals and families throughout Arizona. Locally, those dollars fund concrete programs in Maricopa County, including the eight-week NAMI Family-to-Family caregiver course, NAMI Basics for parents of youth, NAMI Connection peer support groups, and the youth-focused NAMI Ending the Silence initiative, according to NAMI Valley of the Sun.

Those programs serve people affected by mental illness, including families, caregivers, and young people.

    Community Support for Mental Health

NAMI’s community-based programs provide education, advocacy, and support services to people affected by mental illness.

For residents facing an immediate crisis, Arizona’s crisis network offers a 24/7 crisis line and text service. Sabetta has taken the organization’s advocacy beyond the walk route and into state policy, including participating in suicide prevention advocacy days at the Arizona State Capitol, per NAMI Valley of the Sun.

    From Glendale to Phoenix

Last year’s 21st annual walk was held in Glendale and drew corporate sponsorships from regional healthcare organizations including Molina Healthcare and Mercy Care Plan, according to the Daily Independent.

Organizers hope the event will build awareness across Arizona and inspire meaningful conversations about mental health, reminding participants that they are not alone in their journey. Those interested in walking, volunteering, or donating can find registration details at namivos.org/namiwalks.
