Cyberabad Police Commissioner Ramesh has extended his full support to the fourth edition of Run for SMA 2026, a major public health awareness initiative aimed at spreading critical awareness about Spinal Muscular Atrophy and promoting preventive healthcare. The mega event, beautifully organised by the Cure SMA Foundation of India, will be held on August 9, 2026, at the Gachibowli Stadium. The charitable event was officially launched at the Cyberabad Commissionerate, where Ramesh proudly unveiled the official Run for SMA 2026 promotional poster and the official event T-shirt. By lending the full institutional support of the Cyberabad Police, the Commissioner strongly reinforced the vital importance of collaborative community efforts in raising awareness about rare diseases and encouraging preventive healthcare initiatives across the state.

The launch programme was attended by Radha Rama Devi, senior geneticist and pediatrician at Rainbow Children’s Hospital, Surya Prabha, professor and head of the department of neurology at NIMS, Naved Alam Khan, chief executive officer of the Society for Cyberabad Security Council, Srilakshmi Nalam and Archana Panda, co-founders of Cure SMA India, Vijay Vavilala from Microsoft, and several representatives of supporting organisations. Srilakshmi Nalam, co-founder and trustee of Cure SMA India, called for stronger collaboration between governments, healthcare professionals, researchers, corporates, and patient advocacy groups to build a sustainable healthcare ecosystem for people living with SMA.

She noted that advanced treatments for SMA are now available and urged governments to make them accessible to all eligible patients. Observed during Global SMA Awareness Month, the run serves as a platform to show solidarity with families affected by the rare inherited neuromuscular disorder. The event will feature four categories, a 21K timed half marathon, 10K timed run, 5K timed run, and a 5K non-timed fun run or walk. Organisers expect wide participation from corporate employees, healthcare professionals, and runners.
