This Wednesday, a fresh batch of monthly Social Security payments will be dispatched by the Social Security Administration (SSA) to certain beneficiaries across the United States.

According to the SSA’s official schedule, July 15 marks the third Wednesday of the month. This date is specifically designated for individuals born between the 11th and 20th of any month.

Who Will Receive Payments on July 15?

The payments scheduled for this Wednesday are targeted at retirees, recipients of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), and survivors who began receiving benefits after May 1997 and do not concurrently receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

The key factor is not the type of benefit but the beneficiary’s birthdate: only those born between the 11th and 20th of any month will see their deposits this Wednesday.

    July’s Payments Already Sent Out

This month has seen an unusual payment schedule due to the July 4th holiday. Here are the payments that have already been distributed:

    • July 1: Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits.
    • July 2: Payments for those who started receiving benefits before May 1997 and those receiving both SSI and Social Security. This date was moved up due to the July 4th holiday.
    • July 8: Payments for beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th of any month.

The SSA has a clear rule: if a payment date falls on a holiday or weekend, the deposit is made on the first preceding business day.

    Remaining Payments in July 2026

Following this Wednesday’s disbursement, there are two more payment dates left in July:

    • Wednesday, July 22: Payments for beneficiaries born between the 21st and 31st.
    • Friday, July 31: SSI payment for August, moved up because August 1st is a Saturday.

    How Much Will Beneficiaries Receive?

The amounts for 2026 reflect a 2.8% cost of living adjustment (COLA) that took effect in January, marking the largest increase since 2023. This adjustment benefits approximately 72.5 million individuals nationwide and is applied automatically, requiring no action from beneficiaries.

The average monthly benefit for a retiree in 2026 is $2,071, which is about $56 more than in 2025. However, the amount varies depending on the age of retirement:

    • Retirement at age 70: up to $5,181 monthly.
    • Full retirement age (67 years): up to $4,152 monthly.
    • Early retirement at age 62: up to $2,969 monthly.

For SSI, the maximum amount is $994 for an individual and $1,491 for a couple.

    Understanding Electronic Payments

A significant change affecting all beneficiaries took effect on September 30, 2025: the SSA ceased issuing paper checks under President Donald Trump’s Executive Order 14247.

Since then, all payments are made exclusively through electronic means, either via direct deposit into a bank account or through the Direct Express Debit Card.

“Currently, the Social Security Administration sends monthly payments electronically, specifically through direct deposit and the Express Debit Card,” states the SSA.

Beneficiaries who have not updated their payment method risk not receiving their benefits. The agency warns, “Beneficiaries who were receiving their money via mail must update their payment method to receive their monthly benefits.”

To verify or update their payment method, beneficiaries can log into their account on the official SSA online portal or visit a local SSA office.

The Social Security increase for millions in 2026 is being distributed gradually throughout each month, and this Wednesday’s payment is one of the most substantial segments of the monthly schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions About Social Security Payments in 2026

Who qualifies for the Social Security payment on July 15?

Due to the July 4th holiday, some payment dates were moved up, such as the SSI benefits on July 1 and payments for those who started receiving benefits before May 1997 on July 2.

What changes have been made to the payment method?

As of September 30, 2025, all Social Security payments are made electronically, eliminating the use of paper checks. Beneficiaries must use direct deposit or the Direct Express Debit Card.
