The next Social Security payment for July 2026 is scheduled for Wednesday, July 15, and it will go to a specific group of beneficiaries.
People who receive retirement, Social Security Disability Insurance, survivor or family benefits are generally paid according to their date of birth if they started receiving benefits after May 1997.

For the July 15 payment, the eligible group is beneficiaries whose birthday falls between the 11th and 20th of any month.
AARP explains that Social Security uses a staggered Wednesday schedule for most beneficiaries. Those born from the 1st through 10th were paid on Wednesday, July 8, while those born from the 21st through 31st are due to be paid on Wednesday, July 22.
The July 15 payment is therefore the middle group in the month’s regular Social Security cycle.
Who gets paid on July 15?
The July 15 payment is mainly for beneficiaries who started receiving Social Security after May 1997 and whose birth date falls from the 11th to the 20th.
This can include retirement benefits, SSDI, survivor benefits and spousal or family benefits.
There is one important detail for people receiving benefits based on someone else’s work record. If you receive auxiliary benefits, such as a spouse or survivor benefit, the payment date is usually based on the birthday of the worker whose record your benefit is tied to, not necessarily your own birthday.
That can cause confusion when two people in the same household receive payments on different dates.
Who was paid earlier in July?
Not everyone follows the Wednesday schedule.
SSI recipients were paid on July 1. People who receive both SSI and Social Security, live abroad, are enrolled in a Medicare Savings Program or started getting Social Security before May 1997 were paid on July 2, because July 3 was observed as a federal holiday.
SSI recipients will also see another payment on July 31, but that is the August SSI payment arriving early because August 1 falls on a Saturday.
Anyone expecting the July 15 Social Security payment should first check their bank or Direct Express card if the money doesn’t arrive right away. The SSA advises allowing three additional mailing days before reporting a missing payment.
