KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 230,151 calls have been received by Malaysia’s mental health helpline Talian Heal 15555 since its launch four years ago, says the Health Ministry.
The Ministry said the helpline has already received an estimated 66,442 calls as of June 13 this year, a 40% increase from the 163,709 calls received between Oct 21, 2022 and Dec 31 last year, as reported on Jan 6, 2026.
It said the helpline also saw a steady rise in calls received per year from 27,738 in 2023 to 42,990 in 2024, and doubling to 90,981 in 2025.
“This shows that more people are beginning to come forward to obtain tele-counselling services,” the Ministry said in a parliamentary written reply dated Wednesday (July 8).
The Ministry was responding to a question from Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PH-Bandar Tun Razak) who wanted to know the effectiveness of the Heal 15555 helpline in providing emotional and psychological support to students experiencing depression and suicidal tendencies.
The Ministry also revealed that usage of the helpline has also been rising among teenagers aged between 10 and 19 years old, from 632 calls (2023) to 1,290 calls (2024) and then 2,729 calls (2025).
The Ministry added that the helpline has also received 496 suicide-related calls over the last four years; 331 of such cases involved suicidal ideas, and 165 cases involved suicide attempts.
“For such high-risk cases including suicide attempts, the individuals involved were successfully rescued and brought to hospital with the assistance of emergency services,” it said.
The Ministry added that the helpline also makes follow-up inquiries with callers who attempted suicide within six months of their rescue.
The Talian Heal 15555 helpline is operated by Health Ministry counselling officers daily from 8am until midnight, including public holidays.
