Southampton is preparing for its first-ever Mental Health Friendly Day.
Taking place next Wednesday, July 8, the event will be coordinated by the Southampton Mental Health Network (SMHN) with support from Southampton City Council and the NHS.
It will see the whole city unite in promoting positive mental health through neighbourhood-led events and activities.
Sue Hayward, chair of SMHN’s board of trustees, said: “As we get closer to Southampton Mental Health Friendly Day, it’s wonderful to see so many organisations, groups, and individuals coming together to support the wellbeing of our city and to boost our social connectedness.

“There really is something for everyone happening on and around July 8.
“Whether it’s attending a community event, joining an activity, or simply taking time to connect with others over a cuppa in a café, we’d encourage as many people, organisations, charities, and businesses as possible to get involved.”
A wide range of events will take place not just on the day itself, but throughout the surrounding week.
Activities are designed to help people of all ages connect, participate, and support their mental wellbeing in a friendly and inclusive environment.
Ms Hayward said: “Feeling connected to others is vital for positive mental health.
“By bringing together everything happening across the city, we want to make it as easy as possible for people to get involved and feel part of their community.”
Organisations supporting the event include Hampshire and Isle of Wight NHS Healthcare Trust, Southampton Voluntary Service, No Limits, Communicare in Southampton, The Probation Service, Solent Mind, and KvLS Mental Health Support.

An awareness campaign will also run across the city in the lead-up to the day, with messages appearing on digital advertising screens at roadside locations, libraries, bus stops, and street hubs from July 7 to July 20.
Businesses, groups, and charities are encouraged to get involved by promoting the event, attending activities, or simply helping to raise awareness.
Free resources including posters, logos, and social media graphics are available for download from the Southampton Mental Health Network website.
Events can be listed for free on the organisation’s Social Connectedness Guide.
