The Social Security Administration has released its payment schedule for May 2026, outlining when millions of Americans can expect to receive their monthly benefits.
Social Security payments this month will be distributed based on recipients’ birth dates. Those born between the 1st and 10th will receive payments on May 13, while beneficiaries with birthdays from the 11th through the 20th will be paid May 20. Recipients born between the 21st and 31st are scheduled to receive payments on May 27.
Supplemental Security Income recipients, along with individuals who began receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997 or who live outside the United States, will receive their payments earlier, on May 1.
The staggered schedule is a routine practice designed to manage payment distribution efficiently across the system.
Officials said beneficiaries who do not receive their payment on the expected date should wait three mailing days before reporting a delay. After that period, recipients can contact the agency directly for assistance.
The SSA said a 2.8% cost-of-living adjustment is in effect, increasing average monthly payments for beneficiaries this year.
For additional information or to manage benefits, recipients can visit the agency’s official website or contact its customer service line.
