Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has announced plans to revise national textbooks and make physical education, mental health education and arts education compulsory from class 4.

“The government considers education a top priority. The prime minister is giving the highest importance to the sector,” he said during a views-exchange meeting with officials of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) at its office in Dhaka this afternoon (3 March).

Milon also stressed the need to make textbooks more time-befitting and relevant, saying that revisions must be undertaken to ensure quality and effectiveness.

Highlighting the importance of students’ overall well-being, the minister said, “Greater emphasis will be placed on the physical and mental health of young learners. Physical education, mental health education and arts education will be made mandatory for all students from class 4.”

The minister further said that curriculum development and textbook revisions will be carried out by highly qualified experts, and no political considerations will be taken into account in the process.

The meeting was chaired by NCTB Chairman (Acting) Md Mahbubul Haque Patwary. Officials from different wings of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board were also present.
