The Social Security Administration (SSA) has officially announced the Social Security payment schedule for March following the latest Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA). Eligible beneficiaries can receive monthly payments of up to $5,181, depending on retirement age, earnings history, and benefit type. Payments will be distributed on staggered dates throughout the month, based on recipients’ birth dates, while Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries typically receive payments earlier. The COLA increase is designed to help retirees and disabled Americans keep pace with inflation and rising living costs. Beneficiaries are encouraged to review their eligibility and exact payment dates to receive their benefits on time.

According to Futbolete, March payments will be issued on four different dates during the month, with distribution determined by the beneficiary’s birth date and the specific type of Social Security benefit they receive. The 2.8% COLA adjustment introduced in early 2026 raised benefits by about $56 per month for the average retiree, affecting retirees, survivors, and people with disabilities. The updated amounts have applied since January. Because March 1, 2026, falls on a Sunday, as reported by Futbolete, SSA issued SSI payments early on Friday, February 27, leaving no SSI payment later in March.

    DATES AND ELIGIBILITY
For regular Social Security beneficiaries – including retirees, SSDI recipients, and survivors – the SSA schedules payments based on birth dates. Those who began receiving benefits before May 1997, along with people who collect both Social Security and SSI, are paid first, according to Futbolete. Their March 2026 payment is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, under long-standing SSA distribution rules that apply regardless of benefit amount.

The remaining March Social Security payments are distributed in three groups based strictly on the beneficiary’s birth date. Individuals born between the 1st and 10th of any month will receive their payments on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. Those whose birthdays fall between the 11th and 20th are scheduled to be paid on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. The final group includes beneficiaries born between the 21st and 31st of the month, with payments set for Wednesday, March 25, 2026.

    Live Events

According to Futbolete, the SSA determines these dates solely by the day of birth, not the month or year, ensuring a consistent and predictable payment system for all eligible recipients throughout the month.
HOW TO QUALIFY FOR $5,181 MAXIMUM PAYOUTAccording to Futbolete, to qualify for the maximum monthly Social Security benefit of $5,181, a worker must have earned at or above the taxable maximum for at least 35 years and delayed claiming benefits until age 70, when delayed retirement credits stop increasing. Because benefits are based on lifetime reported earnings, many retirees receive less.

In 2026, those claiming at full retirement age can receive up to $4,152 per month, as reported by Futbolete, while early retirees at age 62 face a reduced maximum of $2,969. Full retirement age ranges from 66 to 67, depending on birth year. The 2026 taxable earnings cap is $184,500, with income limits applying to those retiring early.
