It is not appropriate to use generative AI chatbots as a replacement for qualified mental health care providers but young people and many patients with mental health issues sometimes seek out these chatbots because of their anonymity and easy accessibility. The Ministry of Health’s approach is to encourage individuals seeking qualified mental health services to approach its first stop for mental health services. Those who prefer anonymity and easy accessibility can go to a legitimate source to get the same kind of services. Senior Minister of State for Health Koh Poh Koon highlighted these resources in reply to an MP’s questions in parliament on Friday (Feb 27).
