    Roblox debuts digital thrift shop

In the online game Roblox, players can customize their avatars with an array of outfits and accessories.

And now, they can add a real-world element to their accessorizing by thrift shopping at a digitized Salvation Army.

“Thrifting has always been about more than price — it’s about creativity, individuality and purpose,” Lt. Colonel Mark Nelson, ARC Commander at The Salvation Army, said in a press release.

“By bringing our thrift store into Roblox, we’’re introducing a new generation to the spirit of thrifting at Salvation Army in a way that feels natural to how they explore, play, and express themselves today.”

Players can find the playfully titled “Thrift Score” in explorable environments like Seaboard City and Daycare Party.

According to Roblox, proceeds from the digital Salvation Army will go to the real-world Salvation Army, a religiously affiliated organization that provides community support, social services, and disaster relief.

“In 2024, The Salvation Army helped nearly 28 million in the U.S. overcome poverty, addiction, and economic hardships through a range of social services,” the organization announced last year.

“By providing food, emergency disaster relief, rehabilitation services, clothing, and shelter, The Salvation Army is meeting human needs without discrimination more than 7,400 centers of operation across the country.”

A few of Roblox’s most popular creators, including @PrestonPlayz, @BriannaPlayz, and @RussoPlays, also helped design shoppable clothes for the launch.

“For me, everything starts with play,” said Preston Arsement of @PrestonPlayz. “Play is how we connect, how we create, and how we open the door to something bigger. But if you lead with play, heart follows.”

“Partnering with The Salvation Army is a perfect example of that,” he continued. “Players get to have fun, express themselves, and then realize they’re part of something meaningful. When you combine play with heart, you can make a real impact.”
