We don’t realize how often we block our own present blessings by holding on to everything so tightly. It’s always necessary to accept when some part of your life has reached its inevitable end. Closing the door, completing the chapter, turning the page, etc. It doesn’t matter what you title it; what matters is that you find the strength to leave in the past those former parts of your life that are over, and those little ideals in your mind that simply aren’t meant to be. Over the past 15 years, as Angel and I have gradually worked with hundreds…
Life can get chaotic really fast. It may seem as though each day brings endless demands. We have to move from one task to the next while managing internal distractions, like intrusive thoughts, as well as external ones, such as the actions of others. Over time, this constant pull on our attention can slowly chip away at our energy, leaving us feeling drained and overwhelmed. When your energy is depleted, keeping track of your time becomes more difficult. It may feel as though time is constantly slipping away, yet your goals remain out of reach. The idea…
At Kindness Ranch Animal Sanctuary in Hartville, Wyoming, John Ramer tends to a farm of dogs, cats, pigs, horses, sheep, goats, cows, and llamas rescued from testing facilities. All of them were slated for euthanasia — until Ramer convinced the research laboratories to give them a second chance. “It’s so easy to be against something. I could tell everybody that I’m against euthanasia and that they need to change their ways to appease me, but that doesn’t get anything done,” Ramer, the executive director of Kindness Ranch, told Cowboy State Daily. “But then I have to figure out what I’m in…
Pixabay Being an involved grandparent is good for the brain, according to a new study which showed that caring for grandchildren may serve as a “buffer” against cognitive decline and dementia in older adults. “Many grandparents provide regular care for their grandchildren—care that supports families, and society more broadly—but an open question is whether caregiving for grandchildren may also benefit grandparents themselves,” said lead researcher Flavia Chereches. This researchers wanted to see if providing grandchild care might benefit grandparents’ health, potentially slowing down cognitive decline. Ms Chereches, a doctoral candidate at Tilburg University in the Netherlands, and her colleagues examined…
Arctic polar bear near Svalbard by Trine Lise Sviggum Helgerud via SWNS Polar bears are in better physical health than they were 25 years ago, despite the decrease in sea ice, reveals new research. The well-being of the iconic white mammals living around the Norwegian island of Svalbard has improved in the face of climate change, likely due to better opportunities to hunt. The scientists were ‘surprised’ that the bears’ fat reserves have increased since the year 2000, even while sea ice levels decreased. The findings, published in the journal Scientific Reports, are in contrast to previous observations of polar…
When it comes to improving subjective well-being, there are lots of options that work equally well according to a new meta-analysis of 12 different well-being-focused interventions. For this systematic review (Wilkie et al., 2026) published in Nature Human Behaviour, researchers from Swansea University’s School of Psychology analyzed data from 183 randomized controlled trials involving 22,811 adults. By doing a head-to-head comparison of a dozen different well-being-focused routines, the researchers were able to identify how different approaches stacked up against one another. A clear pattern emerged across the analysis: most interventions improved well-being compared with inactive controls, and many performed similarly…
