Before Pete Adler enlisted in the Army, he majored in architecture. Now, after spending 25 years in equipment maintenance and supply, and another 17 years as a civilian employee, Adler is back to his architectural roots. Commuting on BART to J.’s office, I cling to the dirty railing, praying I don’t faint, my heart pounding painfully hard as if I’m running a marathon instead of standing still. I am the father of a 24-year-old woman with Down syndrome — a daughter whose courage, joy, and determination guide my work every single day.I hear stories from families across the country who are desperate for stability and fairness. And I am still struck by the fundamental injustice we face: In America, a person with disabilities can lose essential services, financed by the federal government, just by moving to a new state. For my daughter and millions like her, Medicaid Home and Community Based Services, or care supports at home, are not optional. They are lifelines. Yet unlike Social Security or…

Introduction: Steve Jobs said, “Innovation is the ability to see change as an opportunity, not a threat.” Every day, new ideas are proffered for the progression of society. However, there must be checks and balances to determine whether this innovation is opportunity or threat. In our present scenario, an employee is injured in a work-related incident, prompting care at a hospital. The hospital administers care to the patient and a few days later the employer requests a hearing and subpoenas the hospital seeking the retention and overall production of biological information such…
