ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – The Suicide Prevention Council of Roanoke Valley (SPCRV) and Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare (BRBH) are presenting the fifth annual Youth Mental Health Awareness Month this February.
The objective of this month for SPCRV and BRBH is to promote positive youth mental health and underscore resources for those who may struggle.
In addition, the two organizations are offering free training to better understand mental health challenges, suicide, prevention strategies, and more:

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Talk Saves Lives Presentation: an introduction to suicide prevention
Youth or Adult Mental Health First Aid Training: a course that trains participants on mental health and substance abuse; completion leads to a three-year national certification
Livingworks safeTALK: teaches individuals to recognize the signs of someone contemplating suicide and how to properly connect them with resources
Multiple contests are also open with the possibility of a cash prize to those who best creatively highlight youth mental health awareness.
