SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The Helpline Center is working to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and connect South Dakotans to lifesaving support ahead of International Overdose Awareness Day on August 31 and Suicide Prevention Month in September.
International Overdose Awareness Day honors overdose victims and supports their loved ones while promoting prevention and recovery. The Helpline Center is reminding South Dakotans that it provides free medication lock boxes and DisposeRx packets to prevent medication misuse and accidental poisoning.
In September, the Helpline Center will promote awareness for Suicide Prevention Month with 988 Day on September 8, highlighting the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, which offers free support 24/7 via call, text, or chat for mental health, substance use, or emotional issues.
“These observances remind us that help and hope are available,” said Janet Kittams, CEO of the Helpline Center. “Whether someone is facing a mental health challenge, substance use concern, or even personal crisis, support is just a call, text, or chat away.”
