The Department of Psychiatry at Government Medical College and Government General Hospital, Nizamabad, organised a mental health awareness programme on Tuesday to promote awareness of mental health and encourage greater social responsibility among medical and nursing students. As part of the programme, poster-making and essay-writing competitions were conducted for MBBS and nursing students.
College principal N. Krishna Mohan stressed the need to strengthen mental health services in rural areas. He called upon postgraduate psychiatry students and MBBS students to actively participate in rural mental health awareness camps and drug de-addiction awareness programmes to educate the public.
Vishal Akula, head of the Department of Psychiatry, said the department plans to continue organising similar programmes to improve public awareness of mental health, address misconceptions surrounding psychiatric disorders.
