Our busy everyday lives and hectic schedules barely leave us any time for ourselves. We are in a constant rush: waking up early, hurrying to the office, navigating responsibilities from 9-5 and then returning home completely exhausted. With minimal to zero energy left, we tend to lie on our beds, scrolling endlessly on our phones and mindlessly eating junk food while binge-watching. But to alleviate constant stress and burnout, all you need is to adopt a slow living lifestyle, whenever you get the time, so that you can re-energise fruitfully.

Recently, a publication named Carter Beau shared a post on Instagram, highlighting 8 simple but powerful ways to embrace a slow life for better mental well-being, improved productivity, emotional balance, and a healthier relationship with everyday life.

    Morning sunlight

Morning sunlight can keep drowsiness at bay, making you feel instantly energetic. All you have to do is open your window curtains the first thing after waking up in the morning and allowing the soft sunrays to illuminate your room. Sit in that tender light for some time and watch how your grogginess disappears.

    Visiting the market

Sounds basic, right? But instead of ordering groceries and daily essentials through online apps, a casual stroll through the local market can become a calming and mindful experience. Walking through the stalls and watching everyday life pass you by can help clear your mind, reducing stress levels.

    Outdoor coffee

Stop having coffee in the same spot every day. Instead, make a freshly brewed cup and sit on the balcony, garden, terrace or even an open-air cafe. Feel the air hitting your face, listen to the rustle of leaves and chirp of birds and observe people. This practice helps you reconnect with yourself through nature, offering a sense of calm.

    Dress up for yourself

You do not always need a special occasion to dress well. Sometimes, wearing clothes that make you feel confident, comfortable, and happy can instantly improve your mood and energy levels. Whether it is putting on your favourite outfit at home, styling your hair, or wearing a perfume you love, these small acts can become the biggest form of self-care.

    Cook one dish

Choose any favourite dish of yours and make it at home every day. Cooking can be a therapeutic experience that encourages you to slow down, focus on the present, minimise distractions and create something nourishing. From chopping vegetables to stirring ingredients mindfully, the process itself can feel calming after a long and tiring day.

    Enjoy the golden hour

Basking in the soft and warm golden hour glow can be a beautiful way to slow down and reconnect with yourself. No wonder movies and TV shows romanticise the idea so often. Either sit by the window, take a walk in the park or write in a journal as you take a pause and witness the changing colours of the sky, which will fill you with a sense of comfort and satisfaction.

    Afternoon walk

Going for a short afternoon walk can be one of the simplest yet most effective ways to practice slow living. Instead of spending every break indoors or staring at screens, stepping outside for a peaceful walk around your neighbourhood, office campus, or a nearby park, in the middle of a hectic day can help clear your mind, improve focus, and reduce stress and exhaustion.

    Eating slowly

Since we are always in a hurry, it has become a norm to gobble up our food before returning to work or going to bed. This unhealthy habit rips off the joy of enjoying the food’s taste and texture and how it makes us feel. Savour that pasta, sip your coffee slowly and keep your phones away, only focusing on the meal and the moment.
