ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Nazareth University is holding a special event to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention.
The “Send Silence Packing” exhibit is an all-day event created by the student group “Active Minds.” It features backpacks donated by families who have lost loved ones to suicide.
Visitors are able to walk among the backpacks, view photographs and read personal stories attached to each one. The exhibit is designed to communicate hope and encourage open conversation.
The university says it has volunteers trained to assist at the exhibit as well as how to interact with someone who may be experiencing suicidality and connect them with the best mental health resources.
If you are or someone you know is in crisis, please call, text or chat with the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988, or contact the Crisis Text Line by texting TALK to 741741.
