American Legion Post 91 is inviting veterans, military families and community members to take part in the Be The One Veteran Suicide Awareness Walk on Saturday, November 7, at the Arkansas State University-Beebe campus.

The event is designed to raise awareness about veteran suicide prevention, encourage conversations about mental health and connect veterans and their families with support resources.

Registration and check-in begin at 10 a.m. in the McKay Student Center parking lot. The walk of about 1 mile begins at 11 a.m., followed by lunch. The event is free and open to everyone.

Walk to Support Veterans and Their Families

The walk is part of The American Legion’s national Be The One initiative, which aims to reduce veteran suicide and encourage people to take action when someone may be struggling. The initiative stresses recognizing when veterans need support, reducing the stigma around mental health treatment and connecting people with available resources.

    About the Walk

The route follows sidewalks across relatively flat terrain and is designed to be accessible to participants with disabilities. A shorter walking option will also be available.

Lunch will be served after the walk. Participants are welcome to bring lawn chairs and are encouraged to wear red, white and blue. Exhibits will offer information about veteran mental health support and veteran services.

    What Is Be The One?

The American Legion’s Be The One initiative focuses on preventing veteran suicide through education, awareness and personal connections. It encourages veterans, family members, friends and community members to reach out when someone needs help, and works to reduce the stigma of seeking mental health treatment.
