I have been involved in employment support for people with disabilities for
over 10 years.
Even with the same diagnosis,
everyone’s past experiences, challenges,
and suitable work styles are different.
From now on, I would like to share, little by little, the paths to employment and the subsequent situations of the people I have worked with.
I hope this will be helpful for you to compare with your own situation,
or for family members and those in support roles to consider how to engage with others.😌
“There is such a way of working”
“It is okay to ask for this kind of support”
I hope these articles will help you find such options.
Employment Case Study 1
The first person is
a man in his 30s diagnosed with Bipolar II Disorder.👨
He is good with computers and converses smoothly with others.
On the other hand, he had difficulty saying no when asked for favors and tended to bottle things up alone even when he was in trouble.
After being unable to continue working, he spent about two years recuperating and
experiencing job hunting that did not go as planned.
After that, he was connected to employment transition support through a counselor’s referral.
After about eight months of attending the program,
he found employment at a major manufacturer under a disability hiring program.
He also began living alone, which had been his long-held wish.
However,
after working stably for one year, his health deteriorated again.
This time, I will share the path to his employment, as well as the consultations and workplace adjustments made when he began to struggle. I have also noted changes in his hospital visits and medication to the extent that they could be confirmed.
※This is a case study of one individual.
Even with the same diagnosis, symptoms and suitable work styles differ. Past events and feelings are based on what I heard from the individual, and are recorded separately from my own observations.
