A housing group’s head office has become the first premises in Govan to receive official recognition for its commitment to accessibility.
Govan Housing Group has earned Disability Friendly accreditation for its Govan head office—making it the first premises in the area to receive the award as part of a nationwide inclusion programme.
The scheme, developed by I Am Me Scotland, promotes a network of accessible spaces across Scotland where disabled people and those with long-term health conditions feel welcome, valued, and supported in their communities.

Caron Quinn, chief executive of Govan Housing Group, said: “While this accreditation is a fantastic achievement for the organisation, the real significance lies in what it means for our customers.
“It demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that everyone can access our services, facilities and support in a way that meets their individual needs and removes barriers wherever possible.
“Our team has undertaken comprehensive disability awareness training, with dedicated Disability Champions identified for the Group, to increase understanding of both visible and hidden disabilities.
“Through this, staff are better equipped to respond to individual needs, communicate effectively and make reasonable adjustments so that every customer feels valued, respected, and supported.
“This achievement reflects our wider commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
“A ‘one size fits all’ approach simply does not work, and we are committed to getting it right for everyone.
“Becoming a Disability Friendly organisation is not the end of the journey, but an important step towards embedding inclusive practices across all areas of our work—creating a welcoming, accessible environment where every individual is treated with dignity, fairness, and respect.”

The Disability Friendly programme is supported by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) and funded by the National Lottery Community Fund Awards for All.
It encourages organisations to adopt staff training and make workplace adjustments that enable disabled people to live confidently within their communities.
As part of the accreditation process, all Govan Housing Group staff completed specialised disability awareness training, and the organisation appointed Disability Champions to lead inclusion efforts.
The training covers a range of visible and hidden disabilities—including autism, learning disabilities, sensory impairments, mental health conditions and long-term health conditions—to ensure staff can communicate appropriately and make necessary adjustments for each individual.

Aimee McLellan, project development officer at I Am Me Scotland, said: “We are delighted that Govan Housing Group has become a Disability Friendly Place.
“By taking part in our Disability Friendly training, staff have demonstrated their commitment to understanding the barriers faced by disabled people and creating a more welcoming, inclusive environment for everyone.
“Small changes in awareness and understanding can make a significant difference, and we are pleased to be working with organisations such as Govan Housing Association to help build more inclusive communities across Scotland.”
