The third annual mental health awareness day to take place at Rudd’s Pub in Nobby, Queensland, has raised $17,058 for Get Yourself Checked, a charity focused on men’s health, prostate cancer awareness and early detection.
Aimed at supporting mental health across the transport, rural and civil industries, the event took was held on October 10.
Despite the rainy weather, the event attracted over 200 people across the day.
“The weather was welcomed with open arms and did not dampen the spirit of all that attended,” said long distance truck driver Darren Eyers, who is part of the organising committee.

The day is run by Long Road Events and included raffles, auctions and activities for the kids. “The auction seemed to go on forever due to the canvassing of the hard working Long Road Events team and the generosity of businesses and private people throughout the broader community,” Darren added.
“The old school egg and spoon race went well although the truck pull seemed to be the main attraction for everyone to participate in.”
The day also included live music from Kylie Hogan, Zac Anthony and Mark Porter, with bush poetry from Gary Fogarty.
Two members of the Long Road Events team also had their mullets trimmed, which raised $2000.
“These days are not possible without the generous support from businesses, the community and the hard working volunteers that piece these days together as well as the venue owners of Rudds pub , Evan and Gayle Jones,” Darren added.
