Once more, the Costa Calida municipality of San Pedro del Pinatar will combine sport and solidarity with the third edition of the AFEMAR Solidarity RunRún event in September, an initiative aimed at raising awareness and funds for local projects related to mental health. The event, a running and walking race that will take place on Saturday, September 19, will lead participants around the Salinas and Arenales area and all the proceeds will go towards AFEMAR, specifically two of its projects.

The third edition of RunRún: San Pedro del Pinatar races for mental health

The newest edition of the race offers two categories, allowing athletes of all skill levels to participate in the charity and community event. The running category of the race will cover a distance of six kilometres and is set to begin at 6:30pm from the La Llana Beach parking lot, with the finish line located near the Marina de las Salinas. Alongside it, the walking category will cover around four kilometres, and is open to participants of all ages.

Supporting local charity and community initiatives

The event will transform San Pedro del Pinatar’s most natural spaces into a place of coexistence and solidarity, raising awareness about the importance of mental health care and the struggles local friends and neighbours may be undergoing.

The funds raised will go towards AFEMAR’s social purposes, and especially, to two of its projects: a new supervised housing facility for people with mental health problems, as well as improving the L-mental child and youth care service.

    Prices and where to register

Those interested in participating in the AFEMAR Solidarity RunRún event can do so through the official website, babelsport.com, or in person at the AFEMAR headquarters at Calle Concejal Mariano Henarejos, 9, in San Pedro del Pinatar. Registration costs €12 for adults in both categories and €6 for children under 14 years of age. The organisation has also set up a “bib number 0” option, allowing friends, visitors, and neighbours to donate to the initiative even if they don’t want to participate in the race or walk. The registration period will close on Wednesday, September 17, at 10:00pm.

The San Pedro del Pinatar Town Hall, as well as local organisers, have encouraged residents to join the event, tie up their running shoes, and stand in solidarity with friends and neighbours struggling with various mental health issues.
