He is President and a shareholder of Smith Mills Law Firm, where he represents employers, insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and self-insured businesses in workers’ compensation, civil liability, construction law, and employment-related matters throughout Iowa and Nebraska. His practice places him alongside claims professionals from the initial investigation and medical-management stages through settlement, hearing, and appeal.

Kent’s interests outside the office begin with his family: his wife, three sons, and a cat with perhaps the finest name yet to appear in our faculty series — Ted the Hero.
The Smith family enjoys traveling, exploring the outdoors, finding new adventures, and testing new restaurants and food trends. Kent also participates in what his original biography very specifically describes as recreational “old man” slow-pitch softball and basketball leagues.
Apparently, strategic risk assessment does not prevent him from continuing to put his knees to the test.
