    Press Release: True Self Space

Australians are reaching out for mental-health support in
greater numbers than a decade ago. The Australian Bureau of
Statistics, in its National Study of Mental Health and
Wellbeing 2020-2022, estimated that around one in five
people aged 16-85, roughly 4.3 million Australians,
experienced a mental disorder within a single 12-month
period, while about two in five had experienced one at some
point in their lives. Practitioners across Victoria report
that this growing awareness is prompting more people to look
for local, relationship-based care rather than relying on
    short-term crisis intervention alone.

    That shift is
visible in Melbourne’s leafy north-eastern suburbs, where
community-based practices have expanded alongside demand.
Residents in areas such as Warrandyte, bordered by bushland
and the Yarra River, are increasingly searching for nearby
support, a pattern reflected in steady local interest in counselling
in Warrandyte. The Australian Institute of Health and
Welfare has noted that Victoria recorded among the highest
rates of Medicare-subsidised mental-health service use of
any jurisdiction over recent years, a trend practitioners
attribute in part to reduced stigma and improved access
    through telehealth.

    Alongside geography, the type of
therapy people seek is also changing. Interest has grown in
parts-based and trauma-informed models, including Internal
Family Systems, an approach developed by psychologist
Richard Schwartz that helps people understand competing
internal “parts” rather than pathologising distress.
Clinicians caution that no single modality suits every
person and that outcomes depend heavily on fit and rapport,
    yet enquiries for an IFS
therapist in Melbourne have risen in step with wider
public curiosity about the model. Professional bodies
continue to encourage careful assessment and
evidence-informed practice before any course of treatment
    begins.

Providers such as True Self Space operate
within this landscape, offering counselling and
psychotherapy across Melbourne’s north-east with a focus on
trauma, teen and relationship work. Industry observers
expect demand for local, appropriately qualified support to
continue growing as community awareness rises, provided the
sector maintains its emphasis on measured, client-led care
rather than one-size-fits-all solutions. For many families,
the availability of nearby practitioners who understand both
the clinical and the community context remains a central
    consideration when deciding to seek
    help.
