Social Security checks for retirees, disabled workers and other recipients will be sent out on Wednesday, Aug. 12.

Additional August Social Security payments will follow on Aug. 19 and 26. The schedule is based on the birth dates of the recipients, according to the Social Security Administration.

For those wondering how much Social Security checks will be in 2027, the official Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) will be announced on Oct. 14.

The latest update from The Senior Citizens League, a nonpartisan senior advocacy group, said the COLA could be increased by 3.8% in 2027 — which would be 1.1 percentage points higher than the increase for 2026.

Here’s more on when to expect your Social Security, SSI checks in August 2026.

When can I expect my Social Security payments in August 2026?

Here’s the full payment schedule for Social Security payments in August:

    • Wednesday, Aug. 12: for Social Security beneficiaries with birth dates between Aug. 1-10.

    • Wednesday, Aug. 19: for Social Security beneficiaries with birth dates between Aug. 11-20.

    • Wednesday, Aug. 26: for Social Security beneficiaries with birth dates between Aug. 21-31.

What should I do if I don’t get my Social Security payment?

According to the SSA, if you don’t receive your payment on the scheduled date, wait three additional days, then call the Social Security office.

Where are Social Security offices in Michigan?

There are 48 offices in Michigan and, to find an office near you, recipients may use the office locator via the Social Security’s website by entering your ZIP code for office hours, numbers, available services and more.

What does the updated 2027 Social Security COLA forecast say?

The 2027 COLA forecast stands at 3.8% as inflation rises, according to The Senior Citizens League’s July 14 update. If that goes into effect, the average Social Security check for retired workers would increase by $73.62.

In June, The Senior Citizens League had the COLA forecast also at 3.8%.

The Senior Citizens League releases a COLA prediction each month based on the Consumer Price Index, Federal Reserve interest rate and the National Unemployment rate from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

What were the big Social Security changes in 2026?

At the beginning of 2026, recipients received a 2.8% COLA for Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments, according to the SSA’s COLA Fact Sheet and American Association of Retired Persons, increasing payments about $56 per month.
