KUALA LUMPUR: PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn Bhd (PNBMV) has launched its Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Month 2026 in conjunction with National Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Week 2026, reaffirming its commitment to fostering a safe, healthy and sustainable workplace at the Merdeka 118 precinct.

The programme was officiated by Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) director-general Hazlina Yon at the Merdeka 118 precinct on Friday.

In a statement, PNBMV said the launch featured an occupational safety and health podcast with PNBMV chief executive officer Datuk Ir. Izwan Ibrahim and Hazlina, who reflected on the 150-year development of occupational safety and health in Malaysia and discussed the country’s aspirations to strengthen OSH standards.

The event also included a symbolic flag-off for the Merdeka 118 Spire Climb, involving about 50 PNBMV employees and tenants who climbed the tower’s 160m spire.

Izwan said managing one of the world’s tallest buildings required an unwavering commitment to safety from everyone working in, visiting or operating within the precinct.

“HSE Month reinforces that commitment by bringing our people, partners and authorities together to learn from one another, strengthen our capabilities and continue building a world-class precinct where safety always comes first,” he said.

Hazlina commended PNBMV for embedding health, safety and well-being into its organisational culture, saying workplace safety should go beyond regulatory compliance.

She said strong leadership, continuous learning and collaboration across all levels would help minimise workplace risks and create safer, healthier and more resilient workplaces.

Throughout the month, PNBMV will organise a series of initiatives to promote workplace safety, health and well-being, including leadership HSE site inspections, emergency response exercises with the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (Bomba), mental health awareness programmes, health screenings and community activities.

The programme will also feature the Merdeka 118 Be-Fit Tower Run, with world champion tower runner Soh Wai Ching taking part.

PNBMV said it continues to uphold international standards in building management and sustainability. Merdeka 118 has obtained LEED certification and Platinum-level WELL Core Certification, and is working towards GreenRE and Green Building Index certifications.
