The Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur

The Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) will launch four major academic and development initiatives on Friday. Health Minister K. Muraleedharan will inaugurate the projects at a function to be held on the university campus at Mulangunnathukavu.

The Minister will formally inaugurate the MSc Medical Bioinformatics programme, a pioneering initiative that is expected to strengthen interdisciplinary medical education in Kerala. The programme is being offered under the School of Translational Health Sciences, established at the university’s headquarters. It is the first on-campus academic programme of KUHS and also the first postgraduate programme in Medical Bioinformatics in Kerala.

Since its inception, KUHS has been promoting excellence in health sciences education through its affiliated institutions. The launch of an academic programme on its own campus marks a new chapter in the university’s academic journey and reflects its commitment to advancing interdisciplinary education, research and innovation in health sciences, according to a press release from KUHS.

The Minister will also dedicate to the State the medicinal plant garden established on the university campus with financial assistance from the National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB). The garden, which will serve as a valuable resource for students, researchers and faculty members, is expected to promote biodiversity conservation, medicinal plant research and public health awareness.

Another major initiative to be launched is the University’s dedicated YouTube channel for public health awareness. The channel aims to disseminate scientifically validated health information, promote healthy lifestyles and counter misinformation related to diseases, treatments and preventive healthcare through expert talks, interviews and awareness programmes.

The Minister will also inaugurate the university’s state-of-the-art e-learning studio, which has been established to facilitate masterclasses, digital learning resources and other technology-enabled academic initiatives for students. Mohanan Kunnummal, Vice-Chancellor, will preside over the function.
