The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, launched its ‘Swachhata Pakhwada 2026’ campaign on Thursday with campus cleanliness drives, awareness programmes and initiatives to reduce single-use plastic, in line with guidelines issued by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation. The activities are also linked to the Ministry’s coastal cleanliness campaign, Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar.
In-charge Director E. Pattabhi Rama Rao said cleanliness holds special significance for an institute dedicated to ocean studies. “For an institute that studies the ocean, keeping our surroundings clean is closely connected to our work. A wrapper dropped on a street can travel through drains and rivers to the sea. Small habits practised every day make a real difference,” he said.
An exhibition-cum-sale of eco-friendly products featured local community enterprises and self-help groups showcasing bio-enzyme cleaners, millet-based foods, handicrafts and sustainable clothing, attracting staff visitors, according to a press release.
