    June 21st marks the 12th anniversary of International Yoga Day, signifying the importance of being healthy. And the 2026 theme is ” Yoga for Healthy Aeging,” which means Yoga is for all. During this healthy day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “June 21 marks the longest day on Earth; it has now become largest community celebration day because of yoga”.

    International Yoga Day 2026 Theme:

    As per the United Nations, this year’s Yoga Day theme is ” Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, which emphasizes that Yoga is for everyone irrespective of age.

    Yoga can be a valuable practice for healthy aging because it supports many of the abilities that help people stay active, independent, and engaged as they grow older. By combining gentle movement, stretching, breathing exercises, and mindfulness, yoga can help improve balance, flexibility, strength, and mobility, while also supporting mental well-being and stress management, as per the UN’s explainer.

    Because yoga can be adapted to different fitness levels and health conditions, it offers an accessible way for many older adults to maintain their physical and emotional health, it said.

    It further added these benefits support several goals of the WHO Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021-2030), including promoting independence, reducing fall risk, enhancing quality of life, and encouraging person-centered approaches to health and well-being.

    PM Modi Yoga Day Speech:

    “Yoga brings people together; I congratulate people of the world on this occasion. Yoga is not just physical exercise, not restricted to any age group; it is an expression of human spirit,” said PM Modi while addressing the nation.

    He further said, “Yoga helps us remain healthy, active and energetic as we age,” adding, “Yoga is not just for personal well-being; it is also a pathway to global peace.”

    PM Modi encouraged citizens to not limit Yoga to a single day; he said, “let us make it a part of everyday life.”

    Highlighting the theme of International Day of Yoga 2026, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, PM Shri Modi said Yoga is not limited to physical exercise or any particular age group, but is a comprehensive approach to life that promotes vitality, resilience and well-being at every stage of life. He said Yoga enables individuals to remain healthy, active and energetic as they age, while helping them maintain physical flexibility, mental balance and emotional strength.

    PM Modi added that Yoga teaches the importance of balance in all aspects of life. Referring to the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, he said balanced habits, balanced actions and balanced living form the foundation of well-being. He observed that many of the challenges faced by modern society stem from imbalance in lifestyle, and Yoga offers a practical pathway towards harmony, discipline and inner peace.

    Highlighting its benefits, PM Modi said, benefits of Yoga extends beyond physical fitness to mental wellness and emotional stability. He remarked that Yoga fosters self-awareness, reduces stress and contributes to a more peaceful and harmonious society. The Prime Minister added that while Yoga enriches individual lives, it also serves as a powerful force for promoting understanding, cooperation and peace across the world.
