Welcome to the Good News Roundup for June 22, 2026

EVs Help Save More Than 260,000 Lives in China

A new study has found that China’s shift to electric vehicles has significantly improved air quality and helped prevent an estimated 262,000 premature deaths.

Researchers analysed data from 150 Chinese cities and found that EV adoption reduced fine particle pollution by almost 24% and carbon monoxide levels by more than 30% by 2023, helping create cleaner and healthier urban environments.

Published in Nature Health, the study provides some of the strongest evidence yet that large scale EV adoption can deliver major public health benefits alongside environmental gains. Read more here.

$625,000 Raised for Elderly Woman After Free Lawn Makeover Goes Viral

An elderly woman in Kansas USA, has received more than $625,000 USD in donations after her story was shared by Spencer, who runs the popular SB Mowing YouTube channel, known for providing free lawn care to people in need.

After volunteering to restore Debbie’s overgrown yard, he learned she had fallen behind on rent and was delaying essential healthcare following the death of her husband.

Spencer launched a GoFundMe on her behalf, attracting more than 13,000 donors in just three days. Read more about Debbie’s story here.

Reading Enjoyment Rises Among Young People in the UK

A major UK literacy survey of more than 125,000 children and young people has revealed a welcome increase in reading enjoyment and daily reading in 2026, marking the first improvement after several years of decline.

More than one in three (36.1%) young people now say they enjoy reading in their free time, up from 32.7% in 2025, while 20.3% report reading daily, compared with 18.7% last year.

Encouragingly, the research found that even many children who do not enjoy reading still recognise its benefits, with reading continuing to support learning, wellbeing and understanding of themselves and others. Read more here.

Scientists Move Closer to Regrowing Human Teeth

Scientists are making significant progress towards regrowing natural human teeth, with a Japanese treatment first reported in 2023 now advancing through human clinical trials.

In June 2026, developers secured new funding to support larger studies of the experimental therapy, which aims to stimulate the growth of new teeth from dormant tooth buds already present in the body.

Alongside advances in stem cells, lab grown teeth and enamel regeneration, researchers believe these breakthroughs could one day provide a natural alternative to dentures, bridges and dental implants. Read more here.
