KPJ Healthcare Berhad has launched the “Digestive Care 4 Life Campaign”, a nationwide initiative focused on promoting digestive health awareness, preventive healthcare and earlier intervention.

As one of the campaign’s key initiatives, KPJ Healthcare will provide 500 complimentary endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures for public patients referred from the Ministry of Health Malaysia facilities to participating KPJ hospitals.

The campaign was officially launched by Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, Minister of Health Malaysia, reflecting the importance of collective efforts to strengthen preventive healthcare, expand access to screening services and encourage earlier intervention for conditions that may otherwise go undetected until a later stage.

“While World Digestive Health Day was officially marked on the 29th of May, the urgency of this agenda demands our continuous, undivided attention.

“I am deeply heartened to be here for the launch of KPJ Healthcare’s “Digestive Care 4 Life” Campaign — a testament to the shared responsibility we carry in shaping the health landscape of our nation,” said Dr Dzulkefly at the launch in Kuala Lumpur.

“At its core, a robust healthcare system is not measured merely by its capacity to treat the sick, but by its proactive ability to protect the healthy. When we discuss digestive health—and particularly the rising, alarming incidence of colorectal cancer in Malaysia—we must confront a sobering reality.

“The true enemy is no longer just genetics or mere misfortune. The “silent culprits” are often hidden in our modern lifestyles, our sedentary habits, and the daily dietary choices we make at our dining tables. We are witnessing a double burden of malnutrition and obesity, driven by excessive calories, sugar, and sodium, which inevitably take a severe toll on our digestive systems.”

“A successful health agenda requires a “Whole-of-Nation” approach. Identifying a positive screening at a government clinic is only the first step; the continuum of care requires timely confirmatory procedures and interventions. This is where collaboration is no longer a choice—it is an absolute necessity.

“In this context, the Ministry deeply values the strategic synergy with private sector leaders like KPJ Healthcare. I highly commend KPJ for stepping forward with the “Digestive Care 4 Life” initiative.”

For the record, many digestive diseases, including colorectal cancer, may develop with minimal or no early symptoms, resulting in missed opportunities for timely diagnosis and treatment. Through appropriate screening, conditions can often be detected earlier, allowing individuals to receive appropriate care before they progress further.

As part of the initiative, KPJ Healthcare will implement a nationwide endoscopy and colonoscopy programme for eligible public patients referred to participating KPJ hospitals. Through 500 complimentary procedures, the programme aims to support earlier diagnosis and intervention for individuals requiring further assessment, while contributing to broader efforts to improve digestive health outcomes within the community.

Chin Keat Chyuan, President and Managing Director of KPJ Healthcare, said the initiative reflects the Group’s commitment to improving health outcomes through earlier detection and intervention, while demonstrating how the KPJ Health System extends its focus beyond treatment to prevention and community health.

He commented, “Many digestive conditions can be managed more effectively when identified early, yet barriers such as cost, limited awareness and hesitation often delay individuals from seeking appropriate assessment. Through Digestive Care 4 Life, we hope to encourage more Malaysians to take proactive steps towards protecting their health before conditions become more serious and more difficult to treat.”

“Beyond raising awareness, this initiative is about helping individuals take the next step when further evaluation is needed. In line with our Care for Life purpose, we remain committed to ensuring that healthcare is accessible and inclusive, particularly for communities that may face additional challenges in seeking care. This includes extending health information, screening opportunities and support to underserved groups, so that more people can benefit from timely diagnosis, appropriate treatment and better health outcomes,” added Chin.

At the launch, KPJ Healthcare also announced a community outreach initiative in collaboration with the Malaysian Federation of the Deaf and Hear Me Malaysia, which will provide 100 complimentary health screenings for members of the deaf community.

The initiative forms part of the Group’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusive healthcare and strengthen engagement with the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, while encouraging earlier identification of potential health concerns and supporting appropriate follow-up care where needed. It also aims to improve access to health information and screening services for underserved groups.
