Guernsey’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy is showing “real progress, particularly for children and young people”, according to the States.

An annual report on the strategy for 2025 has been published, outlining progress made during its third year, aiming to improve mental health and wellbeing across the Bailiwick.

The report shows 91% of the strategy’s 45 actions have been started with support for children and young people improving through more early help and better access to services

Member of the Committee for Health & Social Care, Deputy Sally Rochester said the report “reinforces our commitment to early investment, strong partnerships and embedding learning from reviews”.

    ‘life course approach’

The strategy was approved three years ago in collaboration with the States of Guernsey, primary care teams and the charitable sector and will continue until 2029.

Implementation is overseen by the Mental Health & Wellbeing Technical Team, a multidisciplinary group including representatives from across the States of Guernsey.

The report said an important focus in 2025 was prevention and early intervention, particularly for children, young people and families.

It said that during the year, work included developing a new perinatal mental health pathway, expanding early help and youth‑focused services and strengthening integrated additional learning needs pathways.

“Together, these developments support a life course approach to mental health, from pregnancy through to early adulthood,” it said.

Director of Public Health Dr Nicola Brink said the annual reported demonstrated the “strength of a coordinated, evidence‑led approach to improving mental health and wellbeing”.

“The progress made in 2025 reflects the commitment of services, community partners and people with lived experience working together to strengthen prevention, improve access to early support and ensure services continue to respond to the needs of islanders,” she said.

“I am very grateful to our partners across States of Guernsey departments, together with our third sector partner, Guernsey Mind.

“I would also particularly like to acknowledge the vital role that members of our community with lived experience contribute to our technical team.”
