Millions of Americans will receive Social Security payments in June 2026, but the exact date depends on the type of benefit they receive and, for many people, the day of the month they were born.
The Social Security Administration sends monthly payments to more than 75 million beneficiaries, including retirees, people with disabilities and low-income Americans who qualify for Supplemental Security Income, known as SSI.

Because so many households rely on those payments to cover rent, food, medical expenses and utilities, the monthly calendar is more than an administrative detail. For many recipients, it determines when bills can be paid and how carefully money must be managed from one week to the next.
Most Social Security retirement and SSDI payments are issued on Wednesdays. The date depends on the beneficiary’s birthday. SSI payments generally arrive at the beginning of the month, while some older beneficiaries follow a separate schedule.
June 2026 Social Security payment dates
The first payment date of the month is Monday, June 1, when SSI recipients are scheduled to receive their June benefit.
The next key date is Wednesday, June 3. That is when Social Security payments are scheduled for people who began receiving benefits before May 1997, as well as those who receive both Social Security and SSI.
After that, the schedule moves to the standard Wednesday system based on birthdays.
Beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th of any month are scheduled to be paid on Wednesday, June 10.
Those born between the 11th and 20th should receive their payment on Wednesday, June 17.
Recipients born between the 21st and 31st are scheduled to be paid on Wednesday, June 24.
The same Wednesday schedule generally applies to SSDI recipients unless they also receive SSI or started receiving Social Security before May 1997.
Why the June schedule matters
For retirees and disability beneficiaries living on fixed incomes, knowing the payment date can be essential for budgeting.
A person who receives money on June 24, for example, may need to plan differently than someone paid on June 3. That gap can matter when rent, credit cards, prescriptions or utility bills are due earlier in the month.
June 2026 is relatively straightforward because the 1st falls on a Monday and the regular Wednesday payments are not shifted by a federal holiday. In other months, weekends or holidays can push payments earlier, especially for SSI recipients.
The SSA advises beneficiaries who do not receive a payment on the expected date to allow three additional mailing days before contacting the agency. Direct deposit remains the fastest and most reliable way to receive benefits, while paper checks can take longer to arrive.
For June, the main takeaway is simple: SSI arrives first, certain long-term or dual-benefit recipients are paid on June 3, and most retirement and SSDI beneficiaries will receive money on June 10, June 17 or June 24.
That gives beneficiaries a clear timeline before the month begins and helps millions of households plan around one of their most important sources of income.
