Hana Financial Group launched a new social initiative aimed at helping people with disabilities transition into the work force and build more sustainable, independent lives, it said on Wednesday.

Hana Financial Group said the program will provide support across five areas — rehabilitation, education, housing welfare, employment and financial services — as the number of people with disabilities continues to rise, with many still facing gaps in social support and difficulties in daily life.

As part of the initiative, Hana will provide customized assistive devices to 300 low-income children and teenagers with disabilities who have been unable to replace aging equipment in a timely manner due to financial constraints and gaps in welfare support.

The company will also offer employment-linked job training programs for 85 people, including individuals with developmental or hearing disabilities who are seeking work opportunities, while renovating 20 aging residential facilities for people with disabilities.

“We hope to help children and teenagers striving to overcome disabilities grow up healthy and confidently establish themselves as members of society,” said Ham Young-joo, chairman of Hana Financial Group, on Tuesday at the company’s headquarters in central Seoul during a donation ceremony for the program. “We will continue making sincere efforts to support the stable social integration and rights of people with disabilities.”
